A Note About the Author

In the Spring of 1972 as the leaves were turning yellow and brown in Connecticut and falling from the trees in the Bois de Boulogne, an artist on the far side of the World was inspired by the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, to do some painting. At the same time an idea began to form for a tale about a time even further in the past than Middle Earth, more paintings were created, some from images in the artist mind, others inspired by his surroundings... even the face of a televison actress was transformed from a prisoner in a jail cell to an Elvish Huntress.

At first it was just a few random thoughts in the artist's mind but as time progressed ideas were written down, on loose scraps of paper; and then as they matured, in notebooks acquired specifically for that purpose. This was long before the days of "a word processor in every home".

Eventually the notes and ideas had formed themselves into a Story, and at that point the artist made a life-changing decision... A typewriter was purchased and 'the artist who did a bit of writing' became 'the writer who still did some painting'.

By this time a routine had been established, a place to write, a time to write. The painting and drawing continued and expanded to include maps, charting the newly discovered world of Varlar.

Time passed...

Now nearly 30 years from the first stirrings of thought, with which The World Story began, it has a name... Varlarsaga.

Meanwhile the computer age arrived in offices and homes. The miracle of modern communication... the internet... was born. Seven files of typed manuscript were scanned. Gradually each Volume of The Story was edited, proof-read, and converted to HTML.

At the end of 1999 the first CD was created.

There followed a website in which to present it to the world.

Volume One was joined by Volume Two.

And so with the completion of Volume Three, The Story will be ended... or will it?
